2020 Keynote Speaker: Joel Gutierrez

Joel Gutierrez is the Director of Chicano Latino Student Services, and the Associate Director of Student Involvement. He has over 10 years of combined direct experience in student affairs, social services, and therapeutic settings. His experiences blend macro-level management in terms of program development, non-profit management, grant writing, and research development along with micro-level interventions including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, case management and strength based therapy. Mr. Gutierrez has a passion for cultural identity, mental health, and the empowerment of marginalized communities.

Mr. Gutierrez is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education, Curriculum and Culture from Chapman University. He earned his MSW from the University of Southern California and his B.A. from UC Davis. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education, and the American Educational Research Association.
